In a groundbreaking move, the Indian government has approved the PAN 2.0 Project, an ambitious initiative to modernize taxpayer services. Announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the project will enable free-of-cost upgrades to PAN Cards, featuring QR codes for better data security and validation.
The project, sanctioned with an investment of ₹1,435 crore, aims to revolutionize the current PAN/TAN ecosystem. Highlights include:
- Unified Digital Portal: A one-stop solution for PAN/TAN services, making tax processes paperless and faster.
- PAN Data Vault: Enhanced data security measures for taxpayers.
- Common Business Identifier: Simplifying business operations by integrating multiple identifiers into one.
Over 78 crore PAN cards have been issued so far, with 98% belonging to individuals. This upgrade ensures that users enjoy a seamless, eco-friendly, and secure experience. The initiative aligns with India’s broader push for digital governance and data protection.
